Atlas Shrugged
Ayn Rand
Fast Food Nation
Eric Schlosser
A Knife of Dreams
Robert Jordan
A Dance of Dragons
George R Martin
Ben Franklin
Walter Issaic
Founding Brothers inspired me to read this book. Ben Franklin invented nearly everything. He makes it into my pantheon of heros, except for the fact he was a horrible husband and father.
E Myth Mastery
Michael E Gerber
If you want to know how to create a business, this is the book for you.
A Genius for War
Carlo D'Este
Pretty good biography on Patton.
When Pride still Mattered
An account of the life of Vince Lombardi. It was a great read and I never put it down. It paints a picture of the man who excelled in his professional life and sucked in his family life. Still, after reading it, Lombardi is still one of my all time heroes.
The Complete Short Stories:
William Faulkner
A Game of Thrones
George R Martin
Power Sleep
James B Maas and Megan Wherry
King of Torts
John Grisham
Creating Wealth
Robert Allen
Lessons from the Legends of Wall Street
Nikki Ross
This is such a great book for beginners to the market. I will reread it and keep it by me for awhile. I rank it up there with One Up on Wall Street and Beating the Street.
Getting Started in Options
Michael C Thomsett
A good beginners book on options. It has convinced me that I don't have the time to get into options, but at least I have a better understanding of puts and calls.
Israel
Martin Gilbert
The conflict in the Middle East has been going on for over century and this book does not give much hope that there is an end in site. No sides hands are clean in the bloodshed, but Israel is not going anywhere and it would be better for the Palestinians to negotiate instead of blowing themselves up. The problem, which is made clear in the book, is that the Israels have for the most part, reigned their suicide bombers, where as the Palestinian's have no authority, so dealing with PLO is pointless, because they do not speak for the entire Palestinian people.
Rich Dad's Real Estate Riches:
Dolf De Roos
This is the kind of book that I will read and listen to over and over again to ingrain it into my brain. It takes away the excuses of getting into real-estate.
When the Wind Blows
James Patterson
This was the first Patterson book I read and I was not impressed. I hated the stupid winged children and didn't like the sappy ending.
An Army at Dawn
Rick Atkinson
Really good account of the North
Africa campaign and the sort of shape the American Army was in. It makes
me think that Africa first was the best way to go, because it gave our troops
and commanders time to test out America soldiers and equipment and learned what
and who worked and what and who didn't.
Eisenhower
Stephen Ambrose
He is critical with Ike in some places but you can tell that the
author is enamored by his subject. Overall a fair balanced approach to one
of the most important men of the last century.
Grinding It Out: The Making of McDonalds
Ray Kroc
I love reading about how people started their business and McDonalds it a great story
The Power of Full Engagement
Jim Loehr and Tony Schwartz
This book has made a difference in my life. I have fully implemented the corporate athlete system into my work life and my productivity has never ever been better. I am more energized and am kicking ass and taking names. I wish I read this book when I started my company but at least I read it at 23 and not 83. The main thing I got out of the book is that the amount of time you spend at work is irrelevant. What really matters is your energy levels which effect your productivity. This book really tied everything together and I highly recommend it. I have read the book and listened to the audio program.
The Second Coming of Steve Jobs
Alan Deutschman
What a great book. If you want to learn about how silicon valley started up, read this book. I didn't know anything about NeXT Computers or how Jobs was forced out of Apple. Steve is an incredible individual and this book shows that no matter how many failures you achieve, you can still be successful after everyone has written you off. I do not like the way Jobs treats employees. This aspect of Jobs seems very similar to President Lyndon Johnston who berated those who worked for him, yet they were extremely loyal and worked themselves into exhaustion.
A New Spring
Robert Jordan
Finally, Jordan gets back to the basics. Unfortunately this is not a continuation of the Wheel of Time , but a prequel to a series that has yet to be finished. Jordan's books are good when he has 3-4 plot lines going and not 50 like the current Wheel of Time books. The first half of this book is new material about Moraine and Siuan in the White Tower as Accepted and the second half comes from the story of the same name in the Legends Anthology.
Ready for Anything
David Allen
If you want to be super productive then you must read this book. It really helps.
Boy Genius:
Karl Rove, the Brains
Behind the Remarkable Political Triumph of George W. Bush
Lou Dubose, Carl M Cannon, Jan
Reid
Its a pretty good account on Rove's rise to power and also a reminder on how politics has nothing to do with issues and everything to do with entertainment. I hate to lose and so does Carl Rove. However I still have not crossed that line to where I would do just about anything to win and I think Rove has. Find positions that make you or your candidate look good, and take them, not matter if they are right or wrong.
Hatchet
Gary Paulsen
A favorite from my childhood, a young boy most survive in the Canadian wilderness after his plane crashes.
Prey
Michael Crichton
Good, read but kind of a sad ending.
Truman
David McCullough
Truman has just pasted Theodore Roosevelt as my favorite US president. Truman stuck to his convictions and never gave up no matter how dark the situation looked. I am willing to argue that no man has never been under more pressure then Truman when he succeeded FDR as president. Roosevelt kept ill informed and Truman had to negotiate with the British and the Russians on the division of most of the world fight two wars at the same time, and make the decision to drop the bomb on Japan. I also believe going to war in Korea helped check Soviet aggression and helped set the stage for the end of the cold war.
Enders Shadow
Orson Scott Card
Shadow of the Hedgemon
Orson Scott Card
Shadow Puppets
Orson Scott Card
The Millionaire Next Door
Dr. Tomas J Stanley and Dr. William D Danko
If you really want to know who is "rich" in this country, read this book.
The Years of Lyndon Johnson: The Path to Power
Robert A. Caro
I should have probably waited to Caro was done and read a one volume version. There is only so much Lyndon Johnson on can take. I also need to read a more positive account of LBJ because after reading this, I think he might be one of the most un honorable people to become president.
To America
Stephen Ambrose
Ambrose's last book before he died. He was a great story
teller and inspired me not only to learn more about history, but to see the
places where events took place. I met him when I worked at the D-Day
Museum and he was extremely gracious and treated every veteran with the utmost
respect.
Crossroads of Twilight
Robert Jordan
Jordan has gotten way to long winded.
Adventure Capitalist
Jim Rodgers (personal website)
Jim Rogers along with
George Soros started the incredible successful Quantum Fund. In this book
Rogers, along with his new wife decided to drive all over the world in a
specially built
Mercedes-Benz.
They drove over
152,000 miles and made the Guinness
Book of World Records.
This book is great for anyone interested in investing in foreign markets or
travel.
The Stand
Steven King
Review: An accidentally released US government super flu wipes out 94.6% of the worlds population. The survivors are locked in a battle of good verses evil, with the good guys going to Boulder, CO and the bad guys going to, Las Vegas, where each side prepares for a apocalyptic show down.
I love Stephen King and I breezed through this 1100 page novel
in two nights. As with all Stephen King novels, the most lovable
characters die and you are left feeling like life sucks. In my opinion
this is one of Kings best, the only better being Dreamcatcher.
The Teeth of the Tiger
Tom Clancy
The Bear and the Dragon
Tom Clancy
I thought that the festival was a great thing for our state and I had a enjoyed the two speakers I saw, Dr. Michael Ross and Juan Williams. It was a nice change of pace from game day at LSU.
Justice
of Shattered Dreams: Samuel Freeman Miller and the Supreme Court during the
Civil War Era
Michael A Ross
This book is written by one of my favorite history professors at Loyola and I
got to see him speak at the Louisiana Book Festival.
