Dear Mrs. J. K. Rowling

Your books never fail to delight and inspire me.  The characters are so developed that I want to cry when they cry and laugh when they laugh.  I have read all of the Harry Potter books at least twice and know them by heart.  I have seen all of the movies in the theatre and I own the first two DVD’s.  Chris Columbus did an amazing job in the direction of his movies.  His actors are perfect, the action is electrifying, the scenery is breathtaking and the imagery is magical.

Unfortunately I am disappointed with many parts of the last movie.  This disappointment is due to the new director’s arrogance and therefore complete disregard of the first two movies.

Alfonso Cuarón’s arrogance is shown by made up scenes.  Making up scenes (such as the early one when the Gryffindor boys are eating candies that make their voices sound like animals) shows his arrogance because the book already has humorous scenes to draw from.  Along with arrogance the new director has no regard for the first two movies.  The portrayal of the Whomping Willow (critical to the plot of the third book) is completely different than that of the second movie.  Finally the magical imagery of the first two movies is lost on the third.  The land is duller than before.  Not darker as the books tend to progress but duller.  This world does not seem like a place that draws me.  The first two movies were sharper and brighter, even when they were in the Chamber of Secrets.

I assume that you and Christopher Columbus see Hogwarts the same because you kept him for the second movie and I am sure that you had a good reason for hiring Cuarón, but you should start looking for another director.  I sincerely hope that you can convince Christopher Columbus to return or at the very least I expect you to remind Alfonso Cuarón that Harry Potter is your imagination, not his.

Sincerely
